Bethany Helfman, Psy.D.
Dr. Helfman has nearly 30 years of experience as a clinical psychologist. Currently in private practice in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Dr. Helfman has been a guest speaker at both national and international conferences on eating disorders, trauma, and co-occurring substance use disorders. She has published on the topic as well. She offers in-person and remote therapy with and without ketamine as well as psychedelic integration, psychological assessment, supervision and training opportunities.

Psychological Services
We offer in-person and remote individual, couples, and group therapy with and without ketamine. We also offer psychedelic integration, psychological assessment, supervision and training opportunities.

Individual Therapy
Treatment may include insight-oriented psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic experiencing directed at regulating one’s nervous system, and ketamine/psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.

Couples Therapy
In couples therapy, we focus on the couple’s communication, emotional and physical intimacy, attachment styles, and histories.

Groups run at different times throughout the year and may include a general process group, integration group, couples group, and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy group. Please contact us for more information.

Psychedelic
Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) is a type of therapy that uses psychedelic medicines such as ketamine, psilocybin or MDMA to help people with mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders, as well as end-of-life issues.

Integration
Integration is the process of digesting a psychedelic experience: identifying and absorbing insights and creating strategies for positive change in one’s life. We combine evidence-based modalities with psychedelic-specific training to best help you on your treatment path.

Assessments
We use psychological assessments to help inform care. These may include diagnostic assessments, personality assessments, clinical outcome measures, and bariatric surgery assessments.

Dr. Helfman has nearly 30 years of experience as a clinical psychologist. Currently in private practice in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Dr. Helfman has been a guest speaker at both national and international conferences on eating disorders, trauma and co-occurring substance use disorders and has published on the topic as well. She is passionate about education and supervises the clinical work of doctoral-level psychology graduate students through her affiliation with the University of Detroit Mercy, where she serves as adjunct professor. Dr. Helfman’s approach is depth-oriented, relational, and individualized. She uses a variety of modalities tailored for the individual person and presenting issue(s) including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), somatic experiencing (SE), ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP), and psychedelic integration in a warm, safe, compassionate, nonjudgmental space. Psychological assessments may also be utilized to help inform care. Treatment is personalized and driven by what works to relieve suffering, foster growth and develop deeper insight.
